ANŽELIKA CHOLINA

“It was challenging to adapt the traditional dances according to today’s context, to fill them with energy, irony, sadness and vitality of contemporary life. Performance reveals the beauty of forgotten folk dance, which reflects Lithuanian character the best. I believe that this performance will make spectators feel proud about themselves and their country".

MARIJUS JACOVSKIS

„Main stage design idea was born during in-depth study of the symbolism of folk art. It was imperative to introduce those archaic forms and symbols that went through major transformations in centuries without losing their inherent harmony in contemporary context. I wanted to bring the objects in museums back to life, to eliminate the distance that prevents us from enjoying the harmony and dynamics of archaic forms.”

Show

PEOPLE.LT is the biggest Anželika Cholina’s performance today including large number of artists and mass scenes. It’s also the only performance from the repertoire of A|CH that reveals forgotten folk dance. The mass scenes are complex and vivid; different scenes follow one another continuously. The clothes are based on traditional Lithuanian costumes with a modern twist. The beauty of PEOPLE.LT lies in the music, dance and the sense of unity found in Lithuanian folk.

VIDA SIMANAVIČIŪTĖ AND ALEKSANDRAS POGREBNOJUS

“The details coming from the past enriches the creative work, provides new opportunities and values. We were convinced time and again. This project was an opportunity to consistently attend folk costume traditions, that we have interpreted with respect and trust. We enriched traditional costume with elements of contemporary outlook to accentuate the most valuable aspects.”
